About Online Tools

Thirteen free utilities, no accounts, and no copies kept of anything you paste in.

What this site is

Online Tools is a free collection of browser-based utilities — image conversion, checksums, JSON and YAML, text comparison and counting, encoding, cryptography, DNS lookups, along with a stopwatch, world clock and age calculator. It is run by Helasoft, a small software studio in Sri Lanka.

Every tool is free to use and requires no account. We built the collection because the alternatives tend to be one of three things: buried behind a sign-up wall, wrapped in advertising that makes the page unusable, or hosted by a site whose only purpose is to collect whatever you paste into it.

How the tools work

Most tools run entirely inside your browser. The stopwatch, world clock and age calculator never contact a server at all — the page is all the software there is.

The remaining tools need work that JavaScript either cannot do or cannot do reliably, so they send your input to our API and return the result. That covers image conversion (which uses libvips), checksum and hash calculation, cryptographic operations, DNS lookups, and the text-processing tools where a shared implementation keeps behaviour consistent across browsers.

Where a tool sends data to the server, it is handled in memory for the length of a single request. There are no uploaded-file directories, no database of submissions, and no copy of your input stored afterwards. The privacy policy describes this in detail.

What we deliberately do not do

  • No accounts, sign-in or user profiles — there is nothing to register for.
  • No storage of the files or text you submit. Uploaded files are held in memory only.
  • No selling or sharing of your data. We do not have a way to identify you in the first place.
  • No "premium" tier gating the tools behind a payment — everything here is fully functional.
  • No dark patterns around consent. The Cookie settings dialog in the footer accepts, rejects and saves with equal prominence, and you can change your choice whenever you like.

How the site is funded, and how we run it

Running the site costs money: servers, bandwidth, certificates and the time to maintain thirteen tools. It is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense, plus analytics to understand which tools are worth maintaining and which are worth building next.

Both are consent-gated for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and both can be switched off independently from the Cookie settings dialog — the tools continue to work exactly the same either way. You can read more about that in the privacy policy.

The site is a static front end served from a CDN with a small API behind it. Releases are built, tested and deployed automatically, and every tool that handles uploaded files enforces a size limit before it reads the request body.

Getting in touch

Bug reports are genuinely welcome, and so are requests for tools that would be useful to you. The contact form reaches us by email and we read everything, though replies can take a few days.

If you have found a security issue, please describe it in the message and we will prioritise it.
